Expressing intense emotions can be challenging for some of us. We aimed to convey the spectrum of emotions to the audience. Our venue was the intimate staircase deck in Block M at Nanyang Polytechnic. The audience gathered on Level 4 for the start of the show and experienced an emotional journey that transitioned from euphoria to sadness.

We used shadow play, light choreography, audio, and other interactive elements to provide the audience with an experience that is better to show than tell. Each section of the staircase was decorated to represent a different emotion. My assigned emotions were 'void' and 'sadness' which I represented with an abandoned living room.

To set the mood, the area was decorated with old frames in cling wrap, as if the photos were no longer needed following a death or separation. There was also an old calendar, dusty knick-knacks, and candles. The highlight of this area were the letters in a bottle that were hung down from the railings with brown string. Heart tugging letters from a soldier to his family, a man mourning his wife, a mother grieving the loss of her baby, or simply a young romance that never lasted.

Tales confined in bottles that do not necessarily need to reach a recipient, but trapped in time forever so that the love is never lost.

Above this section, cutouts of people strung together told a story.

The entire staircase was dark, and viewers had to use their phone lights to navigate, which many found exciting. People crowded around in silence, their faces lit up by their phone screens as they experienced a range of emotions, with some moved to tears.
